is there any reason Slack was chosen over Discord? Slack is good for internal team communication but not great as a community portal, imo

I agree with that... But Discord also feels very gimmicky IMO, and still very gamer focussed than a general community IM software. For eg, I wonder if everyone would feel comfortable installing Discord on their work computers, where they might be logged into all their casual Discord servers.
d
that's fair. my issue with slack is the 10k message limit on free plans, and I don't think they support a paid plan that accepts "community" guest users, unless things have changed
with a community hub lots of valuable info is lost with that 10k limit
j
Oh yeah that is a pain indeed. Thankfully we have @struct.ai periodically indexing all old threads on threads.typesense.org
d
woah, that's amazing, how did I not know that existed...
the interface for threads is unfortunate, the search isn't using Typesense!!
j
Haha, Slack search you mean - one day! 😄
The search on threads.typesense.org is powered by Typesense though - meta!
d
this one?
j
Yup!
d
damn it's like you thought this through 😉

It's in fact semantic search.
Not me - Struct.ai is a product built by @Manish Rai Jain!

Lots of professional users on discord and especially devs - voice and screen sharing is better integrated
