how can i see if my collection schema change is still busy or finished?

Currently the only way to know is via the Typesense server-side logs or by looking at CPU usage. We're actively working on a way to expose the status of schema changes via an API. Should be available in an RC build in 1-2 weeks

yeah I tried to judge based on cpu usage. that's how i concluded it finished (but failed)
