Why is Typesense so far behind Meilisearch in terms of GitHub stars even though Typesense seems to be superior in every way and is also older?

Great question! My personal opinion is that C++ repositories are much harder to trend on GitHub than Rust repositories (maybe the same applies to Go as well). So these projects get better reach and their communities are also more friendly 🙂

@Kishore Nallan Thank you for the response! That makes sense. I've dived a little bit into both and it's clear to me at this point that Typesense is more mature and a lot saner at nearly everything. So the apparent disparity in this regard seemed strange. That was my suspicion as well, Meilisearch's trendiness (at least as measured by GitHub stars) is probably attributable in large part to the Rust hype train (some people will star anything written in Rust lol!)

Meilisearch is also VC-funded so they can probably throw more money at marketing... I think Typesense's approach is much more sustainable though 🙂

@John Ah yeah, good point!

Do Github stars hold that much weight/clout?
k
It's what companies use to show traction/adoption. Some people use it as a proxy for the success of the project as well.

We are benefitted by Typesense, so we can do the marketing of it from our end.
