Haha, welcome @Joe! ES does a whole bunch of things and has added a ton of features over time that makes any one of those hard to grok, implement or deploy to production. With Typesense our goal is to have a laser focused feature set, simple and intuitive APIs, with sane defaults and zero runtime dependencies. So search just works out of the box and scales well in production without having to knob-turn.
